Commissions

Commission a hand-written icon

A written icon is prepared slowly and prayerfully, to be kept for a lifetime and passed on.

Each commission begins with a conversation. We discuss the saint or feast to be depicted, the dimensions, the border and finish, and the icon's intended home — a parish, a chapel, or a family's icon corner.

The iconographer prepares the board with gesso, lays gold leaf by hand, and writes the image in egg tempera following traditional patterns. Timelines vary with the season and the scale of the work.
